Freda’s Voice hosts the Friday 56 meme, and I wanted to take part. Here are the rules:
1. Find a book and turn to page 56 (e-books, go to 56% of the book or however you would like)
2. Find a line(s) that interest you and post (No spoilers)!
That’s it. Oh! If you do it, you should add yourself to her linky which you can find on her page.
Here we go!
The bush that hid the hatch had been hacked apart, and the door had been chopped into slivers of wood.
Last night Val had dangled my key before me. And then hours later my Family was dead. Or, if Rafeo was wrong, and it wasn’t the Da Vias, then I must have left the hatch into our house unlocked. Either way, everything had happened because of me.
In the kingdom of Lovero, nine rival Families of assassins lawfully kill people for a price. As a highly skilled member of one of these powerful clans, seventeen-year-old Lea Saldana has always trusted in the strength of her Family. Until she awakens to find them murdered and her home in flames. The Da Vias, the Saldanas’ biggest enemy, must be responsible—and Lea should have seen it coming. But her secret relationship with the Da Vias’ son, Val, has clouded her otherwise killer instinct—and given the Da Vias more reason than ever to take her Family down.
Racked with guilt and shattered over Val’s probable betrayal, Lea sets out to even the score, with her heart set on retaliation and only one thought clear in her mind: make the Da Vias pay.
I’m almost halfway through this book, and it’s pretty action intensive. And I’m becoming a big fan of the female assassins (Celaena Sardothien anyone?), so this book is right up my alley.
I like how the world works in this book: the worship of other gods, the roaming ghosts, the clippers/families of assassins. It’s unique and I want to know more about how this all started. How it became acceptable to have these nine families, to live in a city where you are familiar with the assassins and they are respected (and feared of course).
Interesting read so far. Have any of you read it? Let me know in the comments!
Until next time fellow adventurers.
